Ceramic Duck

This polychrome earthenware duck was damaged in a fall. Pieces were adhered back together using an acrylic adhesive. Losses and chips along break edges were filled with a spackling compound and toned to match surrounding areas using lightfast acrylic paints.

Terrestrial Globe

The focus of treatment for this 30-inch W. & A. K. Johnston terrestrial globe was to safely remove the old, yellowed varnish that was obscuring the surface of the globe and replace it with a new varnish that will age well over time. Great care was taken to ensure that the globe maintained its aged character.

Painted Porcelain Plate

Picture
Along with years of accumulated dirt and dust, this ivory figure grouping had suffered damage from a fall.  Careful cleaning brightened the surface of the object considerably, and a conservation-grade adhesive specifically chosen for its compatibility with ivory was used to re-assemble the detached pieces.

The paint on this unique object was very unstable, flaking off the underlying porcelain surface at the slightest touch.  A conservation-grade adhesive worked well to adhere the paint back down, and losses were inpainted with acrylic paint so that the image could once again be read as a whole.
